1894-1982

Mikhail Andreenko, a Ukrainian painter, decorator and writer, left a significant mark on the constructivist and abstract movements of the 20th century His artistic and intellectual career, marked by varied experiences, helped shape his unique style and broaden the horizons of modern art.

Andreenko studied in Saint Petersburg, before working for various newspapers and magazines, while collaborating with the theater of the Société des Belles Lettres, for which he created sets. This scenographic experience profoundly influenced his perception of space and artistic composition. In 1923, Andreenko moved to Paris, a city that then attracted many Russian artists. He worked for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, an opportunity during which he put his skills as a decorator into practice.

During the 1940s and 1950s, the artist turned to painting Parisian street scenes, thus embracing the tradition of the Paris School. His paintings depict the daily life of the French capital with realism, capturing the essence of the time and the particular atmosphere of the city.

From 1958, Andreenko returned to constructivist and abstract processes, enriching his work with daring geometry, dynamic compositions and vibrant colors. Today, Andreenko's works are present in prestigious museums around the world, testifying to the international recognition he enjoys as an artist.
