Christian Jacques Bérard, known as “Bébé”, is a French artist of the 20th century, famous as a painter, model maker, designer, illustrator and costume designer.
Bérard studied art at the Académie Ranson, where he was inspired by artists such asEdouard Vuillard and Maurice Denis. He then designed costumes and sets for renowned plays and movies, such as Beauty and the Beast of Jean Cocteau In 1946 or Les Bonnes by Jean Genet in 1947. His illustrations, in particular those of the famous Tailleur Bar by Christian Dior, also attracted the attention of major magazines.
Christian Bérard was a brilliant artist and an eminent member of the neo-humanist movement. Her exceptional creativity and talent have left a lasting impression on the arts and entertainment communities. He collaborated with the greatest artists and designers of his time.
His life and work could not be better defined than by the title of the exhibition presented in 2022 at the National Museum of Monaco, Christian Bérard, Eccentric Baby. This exhibition highlighted his life and work, testifying to his significant contribution to the history of art and entertainment.
