Henry Spencer Moore, a British artist, is famous for his large abstract sculptures made of bronze and cut marble. His work greatly contributed to the introduction of modernism into 20th century British art.^E century.

After studying post-impressionism and sculpture at the Beaux-Arts in Leeds, Moore went to Paris in 1923, where he met Aristide Maillol and discovered the Pellerin Collection, a source of inspiration for the fundamental elements of structures and figures that expressed reality without superfluous naturalistic details. Moore, who frequents Pablo Picasso, Hans Arp and Georges Braque, draws its inspiration from primitive art, in particular from Mayan and Toltec arts. Her sculptures often represent an elongated female silhouette, sometimes crossed by a circular or disarticulated hole. Gradually, his works became more and more monumental and abstract.

In 1968, a first retrospective was dedicated to him at the Tate Gallery in London. The Henry Moore Sculpture Center was inaugurated in 1977 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto. Despite the high ratings of his works on the art market, the artist lived very modestly and devoted most of his fortune to Henry Moore Foundation, located in Much Hadham, Hampshire.
