Orhon

Mubin

1924-1981

Orhon Mubin, Turkish artist of the 20th century, produced a considerable body of drawings and paintings.

Arriving in Paris in 1948, he discovered French abstract expressionism and was passionate about the new pictorial practices emerging from the post-war period. The feeling of impossibility of representing reality through figurative art led Mubin to engage in informal art, in particular lyrical abstraction. It was during this period that Mubin rubbed shoulders with artists such as Serge Poliakoff and Jean Messagier, thus enriching his own artistic approach.

Color, which occupies a central place in Mubin's work, is chosen based on its psychological and emotional impact. His paintings in red and orange tones thus suggest passion, even anger, while a shades of blue and gray bring softness and calm to the pictorial environment. Bright touches energize the whole and intensify its emotional charge.
