Art is at the rendezvous no. 13 - A glance at a work by Edouard Vuillard

Circa 1932-1938, Pastel on bistre paper, 32 x 24 cm,
Signature stamp at the bottom right
Owned by the Hessel couple since 1925, Château des Clayes is one of the painter's favorite places of inspiration. This pastel testifies to the reserve process, also known as the “art of completed sketching”, a technique dear to Vuillard.
The painter animates the brown of the paper, used as a background, with bright touches of pastel to restore the warm light of the end of the day. He plays with the perspective of the alley that appears through the vertical bars of the park gate and invites us through an open door to enter the castle.
