AN ABSTRACTION SEEN FROM THE SKY

Quite early in the career of the artist SamFrancis (1923-1994), this canvas shows the beginnings of his research on spaces, voids and fullness, after his figurative period and before he devoted himself to Action Painting.

Dated in 1963, it is part of the abstract expressionism movement led at the time by Jackson Pollock or Joan Mitchell. Gallery AB points out that before devoting himself to painting, Sam Francis was an airplane pilot during the war years, which can be linked to the effect of the view of the sky and the depth of the painting.

It is a large format, very decorative, which comes from the Jean Fournier collection. This acrylic will be the only work of this artist on the stand.
